The Forgotten Gateway: Coming to America Through Galveston Island – April 10 to May 20
Presenting a month-long traveling exhibition by the Bullock Texas State History Museum presented in partnership with Humanities Texas. While Ellis Island’s location in New York made it a natural port for Europeans, Galveston attracted a diverse group of people from Europe, Mexico, South and Central America and even Asia. The exhibition highlights enduring themes in the history of immigration including the dangers of the journey, making a life in a new land, navigating bureaucracy and confronting discrimination. On display at the Vereins Kirche, 100 block of West Main on Marktplatz, and sponsored by the Gillespie County Historical Society.
Tuesdays through Saturdays 10 am to 4:30 pm. Free admission, but donations gratefully accepted. Call (830) 990-8441 for more information.
